Design and Technology at Swanwick Primary School

At Swanwick Primary School, children are exposed to a series of fun and engaging lessons that are planned with the progression of knowledge and skills at the forefront. Where appropriate, cross-curricular links are included. Through the use of enquiry related stimulus, children engage in termly blocked sessions with either a textile, a construction or a food technology focus to achieve a final product. Children will be encouraged to select from a range of tools and materials appropriate for the job they are doing. They will also learn how to complete tasks following the health and safety conditions and how to prepare food in a safe and hygienic way.

We believe that a high quality education in Design and Technology will help pupils gain an appreciation of design and help them develop their confidence and creativity. Experiences here are provided which challenge the pupils to step beyond their comfort zones to see what they are capable of. In doing this, pupils are encouraged to view themselves as designers and recognise that they have unique talents.
